Georgia football was one of the four teams to participate at the 2025 SEC Media Days on Tuesday. This event always feels like the beginning for the next college football season which is reason enough to celebrate. On top of that, Georgia fans always get to hear countless quotes from Kirby Smart and three players on this day as well.

And while there were a lot of great takeaways for Georgia fans on Tuesday, the entire day itself got ruined by Texas on the recruiting trail.

Texas teaches Georgia a lesson on Tuesday

No Georgia fan needs to be told how much success the Bulldogs have found on the recruiting trail over the last month and a half. But the fact that Georgia has found so much recent success makes what happened on Tuesday even more difficult to overcome.

The poor day of recruiting began with five-star linebacker Tyler Atkinson committing to Texas over Georgia. Atkinson is the No. 1 player from the state of Georgia and the top ranked linebacker in the country, so this loss is about as bad as it can get for Georgia.

The bad recruiting news didn't stop there as Georgia also lost one of their top commits as well. Five-star defensive lineman James Johnson committed to Georgia on June 28, but he unfortunately announced on Tuesday that he is flipping his commitment to the Longhorns.

Losing two five-star recruitments in one day is about as bad as it can get, but losing both players to the same conference rival is even worse. Thankfully Georgia still has bragging rights over Texas because they beat the Longhorns twice last season which included their thrilling victory in the SEC Championship game, but Texas has once again shown that they are a serious problem for Georgia now that they are a member of the SEC.
