The College Football Playoff committee was right all along
Georgia football just came away with a remarkable come from behind, eight overtime win over their in-state rival Georgia Tech. This game will go down as one of the greatest games in this rivalry's history, and thankfully it will always be remembered as a win for Georgia.
But after digesting this game, there are a lot of things that were very discouraging that occurred. And it all boils down to Georgia getting exposed by an avergae team in the ACC.
All year long, Georgia has had to fight the narrative set forth from others in the country that this team is not good enough to win a national championship. Everyone was doubting this team, especially the College Football Playoff committee who kept ranking Georgia way lower than most thought they ever should be.
But this game against Georgia Tech may have just proved the CFP committee right.
The CFP committee may have been right all along
The CFP's ranking that left everyone the most cofused was when Georgia dropped all the way to No. 12 after losing to Ole Miss. This put UGA outside of the 12-team field, which did not feel right at the time.
Georgia did go on to win their next two games to firmly put themselves back in the CFP field, but they were still being ranked behind teams (like Miami (FL) and Penn State) that most thought they deserved to be ranked above.
But this tight win over Georgia Tech may have just proven that the CFP committee was right all along.
Ever since Georgia lost to Ole Miss, the committee has not been a fan of Kirby Smart and Georgia in their rankings. From dropping them outside the 12-team CFP field to keeping them behind teams with supposedly a weaker resume, the committee held firm that Georgia wasn't good enough to be ranked higher. And the first 50 minutes of this game showed that the committee was right for ranking this Georgia team how they did.
The Bulldogs did turn it on late and win this game, but the damage was already done. While every Georgia player, coach and fan should righfully celebrate this win, there's no denying at this point that this team has a lot of flaws. The committee saw these flaws weeks ago and ranked Georgia low because of them.
And that decision, which so many people origianlly disagreed with, is looking more and more like the correct decision now.
