Panic struck the Georgia fanbase as word came out on Thursday that five-star quarterback commit Jared Curtis scheduled a visit to Vanderbilt. Curtis is the Crown Jewel of the Bulldogs recruiting class as he is the No. 1 quarterback in the country, so the thought of losing him to Vanderbilt of all times was extremely concerning.
Vanderbilt seemed like a random team to get involved with Curtis. Sure Curtis is from Nashville, but the Commodores were never a player in his recruitment before, so they seemingly came out of nowhere.
Jeff Sentell with Dawg Nation was able to connect with Curtis's agent Peter Webb after this update to gather some intel about this visit, and Webb shared the real reason why Curtis is visiting Vanderbilt.
“Jared is pumped to go to the game this Saturday with coaches and teammates and it was very neat for him to visit Vandy and attend a practice,” Webb shared via dawgnation.com. “Nashville is a great city and lots to cheer about right now for his hometown team.”
Jared Curtis's agent explains why he is visiting Vanderbilt
According to Curtis's agent, he visited Vanderbilt on Wednesday and will be visit them again this weekend with high high school teammates and coaches. So this doesn't sound like Vanderbilt targeted Curtis specifically for a visit, instead they may just be inviting his team to visit since they are a local program.
If that update isn't good enough, Webb continued by sharing that Curtis is "thrilled" to be a Bulldog and is "excited" to get to Athens next season.
“But he is pumped to be a Dawg and thrilled to have a chance to play for such an incredible program and staff," Webb said. "Jared is very fortunate to be thought of so highly from Coach [Kirby] Smart and [offensive coordinator Mike] Bobo and he is so excited to get to Athens as an early enrollee.”
It is important to note that this update from Curtis's agent doesn't completely eliminate the chances of him flipping to Vanderbilt. If Curtis was planning to flip to the Commodores the last thing anyone in his camp would do is make that information public. So Webb likely would make these same statements whether Curtis was planning on sticking with Georgia or not.
If Curtis is going to flip it will have to be soon since the 2026 recruiting cycle ends in about a month. So it's likely that if Georgia can survive this weekend without any major developments that it should be smooth sailing from there.
