The SEC granted Auburn the same advantage over Georgia for the second year in a row

Georgia once again will face one of the most difficult schedules in the country this season. That is nothing new to them, but they will have to find a way to navigate it if they want to win the SEC for the third year in a row and make a deeper run in the College Football Playoff.

There are a few games that could trip Georgia up this season that wouldn't derail their season, but there are a handful that will be challenging that they won't be able to afford to lose. One of those games is their annual rivalry against Auburn, and unfortunately for Georgia the SEC is trying to help Auburn win for the second year in a row.

Is the SEC trying to gift Auburn a win over Georgia?

Could there actually be a chance that the SEC is trying to help Auburn finally beat Georgia? The Tigers have lost nine straight to Georgia, so maybe the SEC wants to see Auburn get a win in what is one of the biggest rivalries in the SEC.

If the SEC wanted to help Auburn win there really wouldn't be much that they could do to help them without being too obvious. In fact, arranging the schedules in a certain way to benefit one team over another is about the only thing they can do.

That is exactly what the SEC did because Auburn has a bye week the week before playing Georgia while UGA does not. In fact, Georgia plays arguably their most difficult game of the season (at Alabama) one week before playing Auburn this season.

The most likely scenario is that this was completely coincidental, but this is the second year in a row Auburn gets a bye before playing Georgia while UGA does not. Maybe if this happens for a third year in a row next season people can start asking questions, but this still is a bit strange.

Auburn's advantage over Georgia didn't work out so well in 2025

As mentioned, Auburn had this same advantage last year against Georgia. Thankfully that did not end up working out for them, but they were really close to pulling off the upset.

Auburn was up 10-0 towards the end of the first half and were closing in on taking a 17-0 lead. Then the Tigers fumbled at the goal line which flipped the momentum and allowed Georgia to cruise to a 20-10 win.

Auburn may have gotten off to this good start because they had a bye week the week before they played Georgia last season. They were healthier and more rested than Georgia, so it isn't shocking that they got off to such a good start.

On top of that, Cam Newton had his jersey retired during this game as well. This gave Auburn yet another edge that they still didn't use to their advantage.

Maybe Auburn will take advantage of this fortunate scheduling this year, but if the last decade tells us anything it is that Georgia will still find a way to win.
