Georgia football offensive coordinator Mike Bobo has not been a fan favorite in Athens over the past year. Especially as the 2024 season came to an end, Georgia fans were becoming increasingly upset with him to the point where many were calling for him to be fired after Georgia's loss to Notre Dame in the College Football Playoff.
But firing someone like Bobo, who has been around the program for a very long time, is easier said than done. However, a report surfaced on Thursday from Marc Weiszer at onlineathens.com reporting that Bobo actually signed a one-year extension ahead of the 2024 season.
Mike Bobo signs extension
According to this report, Bobo signed a one-year extension in 2024 that would lengthen his contract to be the Offensive Coordinator at Georgia through the 2026 season. That means that Bobo has two more seasons left on his contract before his time in Athens would expire.
As of July 1 of this year, Bobo's contract will increase by $100k to $1.503 million before another $100k raise at the same time in 2026.
Obviously Bobo could still be fired before his contract expires, but it seems like that is unlikely to occur. Bobo will be the Offensive Coordinator for the 2025 season regardless because if Kirby Smart was going to fire him this offseason he would have by now, but that doesn't mean he can't be fired after this next season.
But that shouldn't be the thing Georgia fans are hoping for because that would mean UGA would have had another disappointing season in 2025 as well. So if everything goes according to plan, Georgia will have a great season this fall to the point where fans will actually want Bobo to stick around for the foreseeable future.
One thing however is certain, one wrong move from Bobo this year and Georgia fans once again will be quick to proclaim their displeasures.
