April is typcially the beginning of commitment season in college football. Most recruits announce their commitments in the summer, but spring is the time when fans should expect to see more and more recruits come off the board and announce where they want to play college football at.

That was the case with four-star tight end Brock Harris, who is the No. 1 ranked recruit from Utah and the No. 5 tight end in the 2026 recruiting class, according to the 247Sports composite rankings.

Georgia football was named one of Harris's five finalists last week when he announced he would be committing on April 7. That brought a lot of excitement in the fanbase because Harris would be the highest ranked commit so far in Georgia's 2026 class.

Unfortunately for UGA, Harris chose BYU over Georgia and three other schools.

Where does Georgia go from here?

The good news for Kirby Smart and Georgia is that the recruiting cycle is still young and there is plenty of time for them to snag an elite tight end in this class. Kaiden Prothro is the top tight end that the Bulldogs are targeting, and he is the No. 3 tight end in the class as well as a five-star player. Some experts also believe Georgia is the team to beat for Prothro, so if UGA can finish that recruitment on top then losing Harris won't matter at all.

Georgia also brought in an elite hall of talent at the position last cycle as well. This includes Elyiss Williams who was the No. 1 tight end in the 2025 class and four-star Ethan Barbour who was a top 10 tight end as well.

So even though missing on Harris is tough, there is no reason to panic. Georgia’s tight end room is already very healthy, and they are still in good standing with their No. 1 tight end target in this class as well.
