Georgia football’s 2026 recruiting class currently sits at five commits so far. That number is likely to change any day now, but the hope is that it will increase because Kirby Smart and his staff have added a commit to their recruiting class. But that might not be the case.
Zach Fort is a four-star safety who happens to be Georgia’s most recent commit. According to 247Sports, he is also Georgia’s highest ranked commit coming in at No. 104 in the country as well.
Fort is obviously someone that Georgia really wants to keep in their class because of how talented of a player he is, but Fort recently spoke about his recruitment and it sounds like it is far from over.
"So many schools are recruiting me even harder now than they were before I committed," Fort shared via ugawire.usatoday.com. "Georgia Tech, Notre Dame Miami, Florida, USC and some other are recruiting me right now."
Fort’s commitment is up in the air
Out of all the players currently committed to Georgia’s 2026 recruiting class, Fort seems like the most likely candidate to decommit from the Bulldogs. That doesn’t mean that it’s likely to happen, but there has been a lot of noise surrounding other programs continuing to recruit him hard over the past few weeks.
Just last week, On3’s Chad Simmons reported that he’s been hearing from a lot of schools who are still targeting Fort extremely hard. And those programs are saying this recruitment isn’t over yet. Sure that may just be optimism from their end, but it appears Fort is at least listening to them which is a little scary.
No one wants to see Georgia lose any players committed to their class, but the reality of recruiting in college football today is that it most likely will happen at least a couple times every cycle. But hopefully Fort is a player Georgia can hold on to because he is the Bulldogs’ top commit in the class right now.
