One of Georgia football's top commits in the 2026 recruiting class is wide receiver Vance Spafford. The top 100 recruit has been committed to Georgia since last November, but his commitment is beginning to feel up in the air.
Even though Spafford is a Georgia commit still, that isn't stopping him from taking official visits to four other schools this summer. Washington, Miami (FL), USC and UCLA will host Spafford over the next month along with Georgia, but the fact that he is even thinking about other schools is concerning.
However, not only is Spafford allowing other schools to continue recruiting him, it appears he is listening to their pitches very closely. In fact, Rivals insider Adam Gorney shared that one school in particular is really making an impression on Spafford recently.
"The four-star receiver from Mission Viejo, Calif., has been committed to Georgia since November and he continues to have an excellent relationship with the coaches but there is going to be some serious competition until the end," Gorney said vis uga.rivals.com. "Miami is the main one to watch (and Spafford wore Miami gloves at a 7-on-7 on Saturday) along with Washington, UCLA and USC. Colorado is in this after a great visit there, too."
Miami is top candidate to flip Georgia commit Vance Spafford
Miami has been a massive thorn in Georgia's side over the last few months. This began back in January when former Georgia quarterback Carson Beck decided to transfer from UGA to Miami for one final season of college football. This news ultimately did not bother Georgia fans that much, but two recent developments with 2026 recruits showed Miami has been dominating Georgia on the recruiting trail.
The first example is when four-star Jontavius Wyman flipped his commitment from Georgia to Miami. This was then followed up last week when the Hurricanes landed five-star Jackson Cantwell over the Bulldogs as well.
Now it appears Georgia fans need to worry about Miami once again with Spafford as Gorney specifically stated that Miami is the team to watch out the most in his recruitment. It also is not great hearing that Spafford chose to wear Miami gloves at a recent 7-on-7 event.
Who knows if this report actually means anything or not, but Spafford will be taking four official visits to other schools in the coming weeks. And as long as Spafford continues to look at other schools, his commitment is far from secure.
