With former Georgia Bulldog Matthew Stafford only getting older and Jimmy Garoppolo strongly considering retirement, the Los Angeles Rams knew they had to make some key decisions on their quarterback room. The decision would be whether to stick with Stetson Bennett as the backup, or look into other options.

With the 13th pick in the NFL Draft, the Rams made their decision and chose a quarterback. To shove the knife deeper in the hearts of Georgia fans, it was former Alabama quarterback Ty Simpson.

Stetson Bennett’s NFL future could be in jeopardy

While it looks like the Rams are pursuing other options for their future at quarterback, that does not mean Bennett could not be an option on a different NFL team. Bennett is still on his rookie contract, making him one of the cheapest trade options for teams needing a quarterback out there. Not to mention, he is by far the most experienced QB on a rookie deal that has not started in the NFL yet.

If the Rams do not plan on Bennett being a part of their future, they would likely be more than willing to give up the quarterback for a day three draft pick. If a team like the New York Jets take a chance on Bennett, he could find himself in that QB2 spot again immediately.

Former Tennessee quarterback Joshua Dobbs was in a very similar circumstance just a few short seasons ago. After having to leave the team that drafted him to find a better fit, he eventually landed in Minnesota, where he got the starting nod after injuries occurred and made the most of his starts.

Bennett could find himself in that exact same scenario elsewhere. While that option is seemingly out the door in Los Angeles, Bennett's NFL career is far from over. People forget that Bennett was a Heisman finalist and won back-to-back National Championships and was the MVP of both games. The former Dawg has a lot to prove, and this will only add fuel to the fire.
