This is becoming the story that never ends.

As you all know, Georgia football head coach Kirby Smart was caught shoving Mississippi State QB Michael Van Buren during the Bulldogs’ 41-31 win this past weekend. Ever since that moment, the college football world erupted, Smart offered his apologies, and both Van Buren and MSU head coach Jeff Lebby seem ready to move on.

But to absolutely no one’s surprise, the general public and sports media are not ready to move on just yet.

The latest figure to voice their displeasures towards Smart is none other than Urban Meyer, the former national championship winning head coach at Florida and Ohio State.

Let’s see what he had to say.

“I was shocked when I saw that,” Meyer said via Athlon Sports. “I know Kirby as well. I’ve known him a long time and, first of all, I can’t imagine there was any intent however it happened. Should there be a recourse? There should. It happened.”

Urban Meyer thinks Smart should be punished

In the above statement Meyer clearly states that he believes Smart should be punished for shoving the Mississippi State QB. But just before that he said he knows there was no intent from Smart whatsoever.

So I guess I’m confused. How can someone be punished for something like this when there was no intent behind it? I get that intent doesn’t always matter if the action is egregious, but are we really gonna sit here and act like Smart’s shove was over the top? I seriously question anyone’s motives if they claim it was over the top or egregious.

But for now it appears we just have to deal with all the negative headlines coming Smart’s way. I do feel confident however that no punishment will be handed down because if it were it likely would’ve happened by now.

So all those out there that think Smart should be punished or just desperately want to see something bad happen to Georgia are going to be disappointed, because I’m as confident that nothing’s going to happen as I am that the sun’s going to rise in the morning.
