The consensus best team in college football entering the 2025 season, according to various media outlets, is the Texas Longhorns. Not only was Texas picked to win the SEC, but they are one of the more popular picks to win the National Championship as well.
But a recent collection of sports betting data shows that the public is not as high on Texas as the media is, which gives Georgia football some hope that they'll be able to break through this season and repeat as SEC Champions.
The Longhorns are racking up the ticket count at @DKSportsbook:

🏈 Texas (+550) Natty: 21% ticket count, but just 12% handle
🏈 Texas (+270) SEC: 57% ticket count almost triple any other team, but just 29% handle

Betting data shows the public isn't fully buying Texas yet
According to the above data, Texas is the team being bet on the most to win the SEC and National Championship. A whopping 57 percent of bets placed on who will win the SEC Championship have been placed on Texas. The Longhorns have also received 21 percent of the bets to win the National Championship this season as well.
However, when you look at the percentage of money being bet on Texas, that number drops significantly. The Longhorns only have 29 percent of the handle to win the SEC and just 12 percent of the handle to win the Naional title. This essentially means that a lot of people are betting on Texas to win the SEC and National Championship, but they aren't willing to risk a lot of money on it.
This trend is also seen with Texas quarterback Arch Manning and bets being placed on him to win the Hesiman Trophy this season. Manning has received 34 percent of the bets placed, but only 19 percent of the money is on him.
This shows that the public isn't fully willing to crown Texas as the consensus best team in the SEC or country. And considering Georgia was named the No. 2 team in the SEC preseason rankings, there may be a good portion of the public that isn't willing to count out Kirby Smart and Georgia just yet.
