Early Sunday morning Vegas made Georgia an 18.5 point favorite over Auburn. 18.5 points is a big spread, but Georgia more than deserved it after beating Alabama this past weekend on the road and dominating every other team they have played this season.

18.5 points didn’t feel right though. Sure that’s Vegas admitting that they think Georgia will beat Auburn rather easily, but based on the results from both teams this year there was a good argument for why this spread should be even higher.

Vegas must’ve finally come to that realization as well because this spread has jumped a couple points since where it originally opened.

Georgia is a larger favorite vs Auburn than they once were

As of now Georgia is a 20.5 point favorite over Auburn, according to the DraftKings Sportsbook. This is a significant step up from the 18.5 points where the spread was originally set.

Vegas may have originally decreased this spread a little thinking UGA might struggle to overcome the emotional high of beating Alabama on the road and rising to No. 1 in the AP Poll. Auburn also is coming off their bye week, so in theory they should be fresher and healthier than Georgia for this game.

These two things might be what led Vegas to make Georgia a smaller favorite than expected, but sports bettors took advantage of the opportunity they saw and hammered Georgia which forced Vegas to adjust their spread in UGA’s favor.

This new spread however still might not be enough since Georgia has dominated their opponents this year and Auburn is yet to do anything too impressive.

Georgia vs Auburn spread still might not be high enough

Outside of the Alabama game Georgia has won all of their games by at least 24 points. This includes three SEC opponents in Arkansas, Oklahoma and Vanderbilt. Auburn is on a similar level to these three teams, so it’d be easy to assume that Georgia could beat them by a similar margin especially because they are playing at home.

Knowing this it might make sense for Georgia to be favored by even more because when Georgia's played these teams they are much better than on paper they’ve performed how they should and blew these teams out. Georgia on paper is much better than Auburn, so it wouldn’t be surprising if they won by 24 points like they did against Vandy or by even more like they did against Oklahoma and Arkansas.

At the end of the day Georgia shouldn’t care about what the spread is for this game. All they need to do is beat Auburn which would be their tenth win over Auburn in a row, even if it’s only by a couple points.

It would be nice though to win by a comfortable margin so they can get their starters some extra rest and cruise into their bye week as the No. 1 team in the country and favorite to win the SEC.
