Georgia football is still waiting to see who their first opponent in the College Football Playoff will be. The Bulldogs will take on the winner of the first round matchup between Ole Miss and Tulane, but all signs point to the Rebels getting an easy win even without Lane Kiffin.
Since it is assumed Geogia will take on Ole Miss in the CFP quarterfinals, Vegas oddsmakers have already released an opening spread for this matchup. While the Bulldogs are favored to win, it isn't by as many points as they should be.
Vegas's Georgia vs Ole Miss spread makes no sense
According to FanDuel Sportsbook, Georgia is favored by 5.5 points against Ole Miss in the CFP quarterfinals. This means that Vegas still believes this will be a close game even though the Rebels will be playing without Kiffin on their sideline.
5.5 points doesn't feel like enough points for Georgia to be favored by. The Bulldogs already beat Ole Miss by more than that this season when they took the Rebels down 43-35 in Athens. On top of that, Georgia has only gotten better since then as their defense has hit their stride and their offense has continued to play at a high level.
It's also impossible to ignore what Kiffin's absense is likely going to do to their team. Sure they may have extra motivation to play without him, but that won't make up for what they will be missing without him. So how can Vegas expect Ole Miss to make it a closer game than earlier this season without their head coach?
Ole Miss still has to beat Tulane next week before they earn the right to play Georgia again. But if this is the opponent Georgia gets to play they should be very excited because it's hard to imagine Kirby Smart losing to a team without their head coach. In fact, it would be hard to imagine this game not being a blowout.
