Georgia is one of four teams in the SEC with one loss. Kentucky, Tennessee and Ole Miss all have one loss this season along with Georgia, and as of now these are the teams UGA is competing against to make it to the SEC Championship game.
All three teams play this weekend while Georgia is on a bye, so a perfect weekend for UGA would see all three of these teams lose. While that is unlikely, Vegas is predicting Tennessee will be upset by South Carolina which would be a big help in Georgia's quest to make it to Atlanta.
Vegas predicts a big upset win for South Carolina over Tennessee
South Carolina is one of the worst teams in the SEC this season. They do have a good win over Florida, but that is their only win in conference play to go with their 3-3 overall record.
Tennessee on the other hand only has one loss which was a three point defeat to Texas. They also just beat Alabama by 16 at home last weekend. They have a strong resume, but for whatever reason the DraftKings Sportsbook still has South Carolina favored by a couple points over the Vols.
Who knows what Vegas sees in the Gamecocks to be able to pull off this upset, but a win by South Carolina would be huge. This would mean one less team is sitting at one loss in conference play with Georgia, and on a weekend when UGA is just sitting at home that would be nice to see.
Ole Miss plays at Texas this weekend which is a potential for another loss by a one loss team, but that game isn't as important to Georgia because they get a chance to beat Ole Miss themselves in a few weeks. Georgia however doesn't get that same chance against Tennessee this season.
Georgia won't get a chance to beat Tennessee
Georgia and Tennessee have played every year since 1992. They aren't traditional rivals, but this stretch has made these two fan bases hate each other. They however won't play this season.
This is bad for Georgia because they have beat Tennessee nine times in a row. A good amount of these wins have been against some talented Tennessee teams as well, so even though they're having a good season it feels like UGA still would've won this game like they always do.
Georgia beating Tennessee year in and year out is why they haven't made it to the SEC Championship game since 2007. Georgia however has no say in if they get there this year or not, and since they are competing with Tennessee for one of the two spots in Atlanta it would be nice to see them drop another game and fall behind UGA in the standings.
On paper it seems unlikely for South Carolina to hand them that loss this weekend, but it would be fun to watch that occur while Georgia sits at home this weekend.
