Georgia football has their one and only bye week this weekend. It's always a little sad having to go a Saturday without UGA football, but after losing to Auburn last week their bye week came at a great time.
Even if Georgia isn't playing there are still a handful of great games throughout all of college football. Georgia fans however should have their eyes on five games in the SEC that could help pave their way to the SEC Championship game.
5 teams Georgia should be cheering for in the SEC
As of now there are four teams at the top of the SEC fighting for the two spots in the SEC Championship game. Those four teams are Georgia, Ole Miss, Kentucky and Tennessee who are the only teams with one loss in conference play. From Georgia's perspective a perfect Saturday would see all three of these teams lose while they sit at home on their bye.
Ole Miss is the most likely team to lose as they play at Texas. The Longhorns are fresh off back-to-back losses to Oklahoma and Florida, but they are still favored by a couple points to beat the Rebels at home.
Kentucky is a double digit favorite at home against Vanderbilt so it's unlikely that they lose, but Georgia proved last week that anything is possible. Tennessee on the other hand travels to South Carolina in a game they're somehow predicted to lose, so maybe the Vols will drop their second SEC game on Saturday.
Alabama losing to Texas A&M and LSU losing to Auburn would also be good results for Georgia as well. Those games aren't as important since they both have two losses in conference play, but LSU and Alabama are two teams still capable of making a run to Atlanta and it would be nice to see them add a third loss.
Georgia could get some CFP seeding help
Last week was full of upsets throughout all of college football, and for Georgia it would be good if that happened again. Only two teams ranked above Georgia play this week (Miami and BYU) and they are both big favorites, but it would be great to see them both lose.
Beyond that any team in the CFP picture losing would benefit Georgia too. The more teams that lose around Georgia the better their chances of making the CFP would be in the long run, so teams like Indiana, Texas Tech, UCLA, Iowa and USC losing would be good for UGA as well.
Georgia still controls their own destiny in the SEC and CFP. If they win their final five regular season games they will make the SEC Championship game and earn a high seed in the College Football Playoff. There's nothing wrong with getting a little help to give them more breathing room in case they do lose another game this season though, and Saturday will hopefully see a lot of teams lose that would benefit them.
Game odds adjust periodically and are subject to change.
