The Minnesota Vikings released Dillon Bell on Monday which was just one day after they initially named him to their final 53-man roster. Bell had no clue this was their plan, so after celebrating making their roster he was left wondering what was in store for his NFL future. It turns out his future (for now) is still with the Vikings.
Earlier this week the Vikings announced they signed Bell to their practice squad, but that's hardly worth celebrating after how they just treated him.

Minnesota proved they never cared about Dillon Bell
Bell had no clue the Vikings were going to release him 24 hours after naming him to their final roster. We know this because during Kirby Smart's press conference on Monday he shared that Bell called and thanked him and other members of the Georgia coaching staff for pushing him and helping him accomplish his NFL dreams. Bell wouldn't have made this call if he knew he would be released one day later.
Bell could've been picked up by another team after being released by the Vikings, but he cleared waivers which allowed the Vikings to sign him to their practice squad. On the bright side he gets to stick with the organization that already knows so much about his game, but after what they just did to him who knows if Bell even wants to be in Minnesota still.
This isn't the end of the road for Bell though. Even though it was short lived he already proved he is capable of making an NFL roster, but getting back on a roster will not be easy.
Dillon Bell still has a chance to work his way onto an NFL roster
Bell had a strong performance throughout the Vikings' preseason games and that should help him in his attempts to make another NFL roster.
Throughout the Vikings three preseason games Bell tallied seven receptions for 59 yards. That may not seem like a lot, but his seven receptions were tied for the eleventh most in the NFL during the preseason.
The ability he showed during the preseason is likely why the Vikings signed him to their practice squad. They know that he is a capable player, so if there comes a time this season when they are short on receivers for whatever reason they probably feel confident that he can step in and make an immediate impact.
It's a shame that Bell isn't on an active roster heading into the NFL's first week. It's also disappointing seeing him come so close to making the Vikings final roster as well. His NFL journey is far from over though because all it takes is one opportunity in the regular season for him to show why he should be on an NFL roster full time.
