Football just means more to fans in the south. It isn’t just a game, it’s a lifestyle. That’s why SEC fans, especially Georgia football fans, are the best and most passionate in the country.
But sometimes that passion turns ugly and results in moments in the stands that shift the focus from the game to the extracurricular activities going on in the stands. And unfortunately for both Georgia and Florida fans, that’s exactly what happened during the Bulldogs 34-20 win on Saturday.
You might be thinking that fans of the two fanbases were caught fighting in the stands, but actually it was fans of both teams getting into it with police.
The below video is going viral on social media, and shows a Georgia fan getting tased and punched by a police officer allegedly over a ticket dispute.
Was this an overreaction?
The last thing we’re going to do is comment on if the police officer’s actions were justified or not. That’s the problem with these social media clips that go viral, you only see part of the incident instead of the entire story, so it’s impossible for us to know what actually led to this moment occurring.
But based on the blue shirt fan’s reaction, it looks like it wasn’t justified.
The police weren’t only getting physical with Georgia fans either, there’s a second viral clip circulating the internet showing two officers aggressively punching two Florida fans even when they were covering up on the ground.
Now that looks very, very bad for the officers involved.
Both incidents are being investigated by the Jacksonville Sherrif’s Office, so we’ll have to wait and see if anything comes from this. But these videos are just another reminder of how passionate SEC fans can be, and how some people can’t handle the heat during a big rivalry game like Florida vs. Georgia.
