Wednesday night Alabama made the announcement that they have extended head coach Kalen DeBoer's contract. They decided to give him a 7-year extension that is worth an astronomical $12.5 million per year.

For those keeping track at home, that is just $500,000 less than Kirby Smart makes at Georgia. And considering DeBoer hasn't won the SEC let alone a National Championship, this decision is quite perplexing to say the least.

But Alabama is going all in on DeBoer as they believe he is the right guy for their future, and that strangely enough should make Georgia football ans very happy.

Kalen DeBoer's extension is a gift that will keep on giving

Yes, DeBoer is 2-1 against Georgia since becoming Alabama's head coach. But what good did that record result in? Absolutely nothing.

The best thing that has happened since DeBoer became Alabama's head coach is their first round playoff victory against Oklahoma this past season. But what happened after that? Arguably the most embarrassing defeat in Alabama history against Indiana in the Rose Bowl.

Georgia on the other hand has won the SEC both years DeBoer has been at Alabama. This includes beating him and the Crimson Tide in the 2025 SEC Championship game 28-7.

Alabama will always be a good program regardless of who their head coach is. Nick Saban built their program to a level that can and will withstand the test of time, so DeBoer will be able to benefit from that for as long as he is their head coach.

But he is no Saban. He is still able to recruit at a high level similarly to Saban, but he hasn't been able to win at his level. In fact, he hasn't even won anything noteworthy yet.

But Alabama has decided that he is their guy for the foreseeable future, and based on his track record that is great news for Georgia.
