One of the worst things about MVP awards in football is that they almost always go to quarterbacks. Maybe they do deserve it more often than any other position, but it seems like the winning quarterback usually just gets handed the award regardless of how they played.

That however was not possible in Georgia's win over Texas in this year's SEC Championship game as Carson Beck was replaced by Gunner Stockton after suffering an injury on the final play of the first half.

So the deciders of this award had to think outside of the box for the winner, but in reality it was actually a very easy decision.

Daylen Everette wins SEC Championship MVP

While there are a few Georgia football players who could have won this award, the obvious choice is defensive back Daylen Everette.

Everette may have only finished with two tackles in this game, but he did what defensive backs are supposed to do and locked down the Texas receivers and force turnovers. And Everette forced two big ones as he had two interceptions during this game.

These two interceptions also arguably came during the most important parts of the game as well. His first came on the opening Texas drive which helped set the tone for the rest of the game. His second then came with only a few minutes left in the fourth quarter, which ended any potential for a Texas scoring drive.

So while offensive players typically get the most credit when it comes to MVP awards, it was Everette who shined the most and was potentially the biggest reason why Georgia won this game. So hats off to him and the entire Georgia defense, because without their stellar play UGA would likely not have been able to win this game against a strong Texas team.
