With potential playoff implications, will Kirby Smart make a halftime QB change vs Florida?
With some big College Football Playoff implications happening, Georgia finds themselves trailing the rival Florida Gators 13-6, with Carson Beck having set up the Gators for 10 points off of two interceptions, almost throwing a third as the first half was coming to a close.
This is new territory for head coach Kirby Smart, who has firmly been in Beck's corner since he took over as the starter in 2023, but a loss to the Gators could potentially cost Georgia a shot at the playoff.
The question is, will Smart follow the lead of his mentor Nick Saban and make a halftime quarterback switch, moving to Gunner Stockton?
Stockton has only appeared in two games this season in mop-up duty, going 10 of 12 passes for 90 yards. The former 4-star prospect out of Rabun County High School will likely be battling for the starting job next season when Beck heads to the NFL.
It would be a bold move but might be necessary if Georgia wants to keep pace with other one-loss teams in the SEC like Texas -- who Georgia beat in Week 8 -- and Tennessee -- who the Bulldogs will be playing in two weeks.
A loss to Florida would be Georgia's second SEC defeat, which would certainly all but eliminate them from the SEC Championship Game and would make the road to the College Football Playoff extremely tough.
Before the game, Georgia sat with an 85 percent chance of making the playoff, but a loss would decrease those odds significantly.
With today's two interceptions in the first half, Beck now has double the number of picks he threw in the entire 2023 season. It might be time to release the pressure valve and let Stockton have a crack at it.
