WR who just de-committed from UGA already linked to Michigan in disappointing fashion

This is just a bad look all around for Kirby Smart, Georgia, and the player leaving the Dawgs behind.

We are a long way from National Signing Day... While it was cool while it lasted, three-star wide receiver Gavin Honore always had a chance to de-commit from Georgia. The Las Vegas native Committed to the G over the summer, but had taken unofficial visits and picked up a few offers since then. Given that he is from another part of the country than Georgia, it is somewhat understandable.

However, Honore being tied to the Michigan Wolverines this soon after de-committing is just dandy!

According to the 247Sports Composite, Honore is the No. 4 prospect from Nevada, the No. 70 receiver in his class, and the No. 540 overall prospect in this year's recruiting cycle. He has 20 official offers, including from Arizona, Arizona State, Colorado, Kentucky, Louisville, Missouri, Tennessee, Texas, and Vanderbilt, in addition to Georgia. Interestingly, he does not have an offer from Michigan...

If that does not raise any alarm bells with you over this strange de-commitment, then what ever will?

Gavin Honore already tied to Michigan after de-committing from UGA

Look. There are many ways we can unpack this. It is still so early in the process, so we may just have to wait and see. From a departing Georgia standpoint, there were not many teams on UGA's level that had extended an offer to Honore yet, including Michigan. His de-commitment may be a sign that somebody else is potentially coming in to take his scholarship. It might also indicate not a great fit...

Athens is a long way away from Las Vegas. Then again, many Georgia stars hail from the West Coast. Kelee Ringo was from Scottsdale. Nate Frazier is from Compton. Brock Bowers grew up in wine country. You get it, right? Georgia has, can, and will continue to recruit top-notch players on the other side of the country. That being said, getting them to sign can be a tricky proposition before it is done.

Overall, Honore is the type of player that would make sense plalying for Kyle Whittingham. Under the previous coaching regime, maybe Michigan was not that high on him? While Whittingham still has to learn that he is coaching Michigan now and not Utah, he does carry tremendous clout as a recruiter over on the West Coast. Nevada shares a border with Utah anyway. Maybe that is what is at play here?

For now, Kirby Smart and the rest of his Georgia staff must pick up the pieces and find a replacement.
