Georgia football is entering the month of July with the No. 1 recruiting class in the country, according to Rivals. When the month of June began, the Bulldogs sat well outside the top 20 in the 2026 recruiting rankings, but 16 commitments later and Georgia has now taken over the top stop.
There are countless reasons why this run of commitments for Georgia is such a positive thing, but there are two underrated reasons that Georgia fans aren't talking about enough.
Targeting approach to close out 2026 class
After the 16 commitments Georgia earned throughout June in the 2026 class, the Bulldogs now sit with 26 total commits. Georgia will still look to add to that number throughout the rest of the 2026 recruiting cycle, but a vast majority of the work is already done with this class.
This means that Kirby Smart and his staff can now take a more targeting approach with their remaining targets as there are only a few more players who will end up committing to Georgia's 2026 class now. Five-stars Tyler Atkinson and Derrek Cooper top the list of recruits Georgia wants to close out this class, and now that Georgia has 26 commits Smart and his staff can devote more of their attention to these players.
More attention on beginning stages with 2027 class
Another good thing about already having a majority of the 2026 class finalized is that UGA can now turn a good portion of their attention to the 2027 class as well. It isn't likely for many players in this class to commit throughout the rest of this year, but Smart and his staff can lay the groundwork now to put themselves in position to land the top recruits in this class down the road.
The good news for Georgia is they already have two elite commits in this class, which includes corner Dante Wright who committed to Georgia on Monday.
So while Georgia fans should celebrate how great of a spot Georgia's 2026 class is in right now, they shouldn't ignore the multiple positive that can be taken away when looking at how the staff is freed up to recruit the rest of their 2026 targets while being able to begin working with the 2027 class as well.
