The Georgia Basketball team has received its first reward for back to back twenty win seasons and a 2015 NCAA Tourney birth. The Dawgs will travel to Waco, Texas and face the Baylor Bears in the third annual Big 12- SEC Challenge Presented by Sonic. The ten game challenge is January 30, 2016. It will be the first game ever between the Georgia and Baylor basketball clubs.

Fourteen teams playing in the Challenge earned postseason berths in 2015 with nine of the 10 games featuring at least one team that participated in the 2015 NCAA Tournament.

The Bears finished the 2015 season with a 24-10 record, 11-7 in the Big 12. Georgia fans will recall Baylor as the opponent in Georgia State’s dramatic one point NCAA Tournament win. Baylor defeated several teams ranked in the top twenty at tip-off during the 2015 season, including Texas, Iowa State, and Oklahoma, and West Virginia.

Three starters return for the Bears and NBC Sports ranked Baylor basketball as the number nine team in the country heading into the 2015-16 season.

“Assuming that [Rico] Gathers and [Taurean] Prince return, the Bears will have one of the best front lines in the country,” NBC Sports’ Rob Dauster wrote. “The big issue for them is going to be their ball-handling. Can Lester Medford handle full time point guard duties?”

Baylor earned a three seed in last year Tourney, and they could be very god again. In particular, the Georgia frontcourt – which will feature at least one freshman and a sophomore –now becomes the official focus of the Worry Like Larry Munson Club.

Georgia has an excellent group of returning players, however, especially in the backcourt. The Baylor fans will counter with worry over their backcourt after losing senior guard Kenny Cherry.

The Bulldog Cagers are 10-13 all-time against current Big 12 members.  During the 2016 season, the Dawgs will also complete a home and home series with the  Big 12’s  Kansas State, which will visit Athens
