Georgia Football gave all of their fans something to smile about this weekend with a huge 41-0 win over the Tennessee Volunteers.

As I wake up on this beautiful Georgia fall Sunday morning, I can’t help but smile. The Georgia Football team are 5-0 after a 41-0 curb-stomping of the Tennessee Volunteers in Knoxville yesterday. This was a Bama-esque performance from the boys in red and black that will probably end up getting UT head coach Butch Jones fired. After having to deal with seeing UGA blow leads the past 2 seasons and Tennessee win both, this W was definitely needed. It felt good too, didn’t it? Especially after 2 seasons of watching many of their fans take to social media and make fun of Nick Chubb’s awful injury up there 2 in 2015.

It was awesome to watch Chubb have success against the Vols. He had over 100 yards rushing against the one team that he was yet to have a big game against in his career at Georgia. Sony Michel scored. Jake Fromm ran for a couple of TDs and threw one to Javon Wims. Deandre Swift and Elijah Holyfield both had some good runs. And Mecole Hardman looked really good in the return game. The defense played a near perfect game and held Tennessee to a big, beautiful goose egg on the scoreboard. It was the worst loss at home for the Vols since a 45-0 loss to Vanderbilt in 1905.

It’s great to be a Georgia Bulldog right now.

This was an annihilation on the road of an SEC East rival that looked like a continuation of last Saturday’s dismantling of Mississippi State at home. The Dawgs are currently ranked #7 in the nation, but with yesterday’s victory and top 5 team USC losing to Washington State, it wouldn’t surprise me to see them slip into the AP top 5.

So why am I seeing people complain this morning? Every post I’ve seen giving Georgia credit for what has been the most impressive first 5 games this team has put together since the early 00’s, I see Debbie Downers commenting on them. I’m not talking about rival fans, by the way. I’m talking about OUR fans.

They’re saying things like, “Not so fast, pump the brakes”. “We aren’t Bama”. I even saw one say, “We haven’t done anything yet”. Well, I’m tired of hearing that, and I’m not thinking that way anymore. Breaking news, Dawg fans…THIS TEAM IS GOOD.  Real good. Of course, we haven’t beat Florida yet. Of course, we haven’t won the East yet. There is still a lot of work left to do. Anyone with half a brain knows that. But what if? What if this is the season? What if we go 11-1, upset Bama for the SEC championship, and make the playoffs? These “We haven’t done anything, yet” Dawg fans are going to let a really special season pass them by and nor fully enjoy it because of that attitude.

I know how good coaches and teams deal with success. They celebrate for a day and get back to work. Believe me, Kirby Smart is taking care of it. By tomorrow, he will have this team focused on Vanderbilt. As fans, though, we don’t have to worry about this. We can enjoy the fact that this team is 2-0 in the SEC and has won those past 2 games by a mind-boggling combined score of 72-3.

Could Georgia lose a game this year?

Absolutely. But this team is worthy of all the attention it’s getting right now. I think our fan base has become so accustomed to being the “Charlie Brown” of college football that we can’t fully enjoy legitimate success. We have had our hopes dashed so many times over the years that it has hurt our fandom in ways. I have been guilty of it. Well, it’s time to change that mentality. Kirby Smart had obviously changed the mentality of the team. This team goes out every Saturday now expecting to win. They know humility is only a Saturday away, so they do their best to prepare for every game. These dawgs go out there with confidence, not arrogance. That’s a championship approach and it’s what Kirby Smart was hired for. As fans, I think it’s time for us to follow that example.

I’m not saying we need to start buying tickets to the national championship. All I’m saying is that this team is for real.  They’ve proven it and will do more as the season goes on to prove it. So let’s enjoy it! Really good seasons have been few and far between lately, but that’s changing.  Let me help you out, fellow Dawg fans. I’m going to give away the ending to this story. Kirby is going to lead this team to an SEC title and a playoff appearance. Will it be this year? Maybe, maybe not.

But it’s coming. And I for one, am not going to waste it. I’m not going to let the past ruin the present for me. I’ll enjoy every win and look forward to the next. Let’s “stop to smell the roses”, as they say. We don’t have to be cocky, but we can be confident knowing that this team is headed in the right direction….towards the Mercedes Benz Stadium in Atlanta and an epic rematch of the 2012 classic against the Alabama Crimson Tide in the SEC championship game.
