Georgia football: Arian Smith the speedster Dawgs need
Georgia football could still be looking for another wide receiver in the 2020 class, and that guy could end up being Arian Smith.
It looks like Georgia football could take another wideout for the 2020 class.
According to 247Sports Composite rankings, Georgia ranks as the No. 5 overall and the No. 3 SEC class. The Dawgs recently added Kendall Milton and Chad Lindberg in the last two days, which helped Georgia get back into the top-5.
Currently, in the 2020 class, Georgia has three wide receivers committed. Those three guys are 4-star Marcus Rosemy, 4-star Justin Robinson and 3-star Corey Wren.
Since Jeremiah Holloman got dismissed from the program, there have been questions about whether or not the Dawgs would take another wideout. I wrote an article and thought that they would; however, I didn’t consider that it could be Smith.
We all thought Mecole Hardman was fast; I believe that Smith could be faster than him.
Smith is a 6-1 170-pound wideout from Lakeland, Florida. According to 247Sports Composite rankings, he is a 4-star that ranks as the No. 134 overall, the No. 27 WR and the No. 22 prospect in Florida.
On his 247Sports profile, Georgia holds 100 percent of the crystal ball predictions as well. Smith currently holds 21 offers. Georgia offered him back on April 30, 2018.
Smith, like most receivers and football players, runs track. However, he is a little more involved in track than the average athlete. He was a part of the Pan Am U20 4×100 relay team with Matthew Boiling who is currently a track athlete at Georgia.
The team won and set a world record as they finished the even in 38.62. Multiple people have told me this and after watching Smith, I understand it now. You cannot coach speed, and Smith has a level of speed that is incredible.
Last season, Smith ran the ball 73 times for 830 times and 11 touchdowns. However, at the next level, Georgia wants him for more of a slot receiver. He would make a nice compliment with Wren, and those would be two quick guys that defenders would have to cover.
On July 15, Smith released his top eight schools on Twitter which includes FSU, Auburn, Alabama, Georgia, LSU, Florida, Tennessee, and Oklahoma.
I will say that Smith is pretty raw and needs some development, but at the same time, the speed thing screams at me, and I understand why Georgia’s interested in him.
In my opinion, I think he needs to gain some weight as well because 170-pounds is tiny in the SEC.
Smith’s has excellent control over his speed, and I like how physical he is on the field. He plays both ways, which I like more because it allows him to understand the other position better.
He’s one of those guys that if he gets the ball, you better tackle him quick or he will head to the house.
Smith excites me, and I think Georgia’s going to end up taking him in the 2020 class. If he were to come to Georgia, it would give the Bulldogs six prospects out of Florida, which makes it that much sweeter.
Keep an eye out for Smith and where he visits after this next dead period. I expect to see him on campus a few times this season. I think he will take visits and figure out where he wants to go, but I like the Dawgs chances right now.
