#4: 2007 Season

AP Post Season Poll: No. 2

Record: 11-2

1st-Round picks: 2

2nd-3rd-Round picks: 5

No. 23 All-Time Georgia team in SRS on Sports-Reference.com (17.20)

The 2007 team lost just two games, but those games were both against SEC East teams. That first loss came in the second game of the year ragainst South Carolina.

Georgia could have easily moved passed this and salvaged their season. However, a loss to Tennessee would see them tie for the SEC East title and cost them a shot at the title, and ultimately a shot at a national championship.

After the Tennessee loss, the Dawgs won their next eight games in a row, including a 31 point win over the No. 1 offense in the country that year.

Some believed that Georgia should have been in the national championship game after end their regular season with that win streak. I am not one of those people. I’ve always believed if you do not win your conference, then you can not win the title.

The 2007 Georgia team is also the only team of this millennium to have its quarterback playing in the NFL. Matthew Stafford was the No. 1 overall pick in the 2009 draft by the Detroit Lions.

Other great QBs like David Greene, DJ Shockley, and Aaron Murray played for Georgia, but none, besides Stafford, could make it work in the NFL.

This group was also the last Georgia team to beat Alabama.
