Georgia football wide receiver Ladd McConkey had his coming-out party last year, but what will the talented wideout make happen in 2022?

Will McConkey pick up where he left off in 2021? With Jermaine Burton transferring to Alabama McConkey has an opportunity to get a leading role and put up some significant numbers this year.

He is a speedy receiver that can not only cover the slot position but can be a deep threat for starting quarterback Stetson Bennett as well.

McConkey became one of the Mailman’s top targets before getting Burton back last year, and now the two can build on the connection even more.

Georgia football wide receiver Ladd McConkey is set for a big-time second season.

Last season the redshirt sophomore finished the year with 31 catches for 447 yards and five scores. He also had four runs for 44 yards and one touchdown.

McConkey was a versatile weapon that will continue to get used in a multitude of ways on this 2022 offense.

He became a fan favorite for his incredible performances at Auburn where he had five catches for 135 yards and one score against the Tigers. McConkey had the second-most catches on the team and could see that happen again this year.

The redshirt sophomore had to earn his spot on this team and had to prove himself worthy of a scholarship. McConkey did that and more in 2021, proving to all those teams that overlooked him made a massive mistake.

Let’s look at what McConkey brings to the Dawgs’ offense in 2022.

Strengths

One of McConkey’s biggest strengths is his speed. He is so fast and agile that it makes him difficult to cover. Not to mention, McConkey is a guy that makes catches when his team needs him to.

Another strength is his ability to get yards after catching the ball. He averaged 14.5 yards a catch, which is downright impressive. McConkey wasn’t the biggest guy, but he was difficult to tackle, which makes him a major asset.

His versatility is also a strength. Georgia has some injuries at the running back position, so the Dawgs could look to him to tote the rock. He didn’t have to do it much in 2021 but is more than capable because of his speed and ball security.

Weaknesses

McConkey doesn’t have a lot to work on, but no one is perfect, so he can work on his blocks and stay on top of the playbook. If McConkey can produce, he should have no issues staying on the field. However, it’s important that he grows as a blocker and makes those routes a bit crisper.

He may have 15 games under his belt, but McConkey will improve the more reps he takes in a competitive setting. This guy can have a massive season, and it’s up to him to work for it and prove he has what it takes. McConkey does have what it takes, but he will have to outwork some other talented guys, and if he improves on these minor things, he will stay on the field.

2022 Season Prediction for Ladd McConkey

As the guy who had the second most receptions on the team in 2021, look for McConkey to build off that. That production will be similar in 2022, and if we provide a prediction, we think McConkey will record 35 catches for 888 yards and eight touchdowns.

He will also get used as a running back in some circumstances. We predict he will record 25 rushes for 400 yards and three touchdowns.
