Georgia football is the lone SEC team in the College Football Playoff, and that is how it should be because Alabama did not prove itself worthy of a spot. The Tide lost not once but twice in the regular season, so why would they even be in consideration?

Thankfully, the College Football Playoff committee made the right choice by leaving the Tide out because it wouldn’t have been pretty if they didn’t. People would have lost their minds. The only people that wanted Alabama in the Playoff were Alabama and its fans.

This year’s Playoff is perfect because it features new teams and no Alabama. Yes, I said it, but it’s only because they didn’t earn it. In other years, they made it, so it was silly to suggest only one SEC team should be in the Playoff. However, this year it’s true. Georgia is the only SEC team good enough to be in the Playoff this year. Tennessee would have been a close second if they didn’t have that embarrassing loss to South Carolina.

Georgia football and the rest of the Top 4 are the right choices for the College Football Playoff.

When Nick Saban made his plea on Fox last night, it was such a full-circle moment. When head coach Kirby Smart did it a few years ago as a two-loss team, Alabama fans everywhere judged him for it. Now that Saban did it, they thought it was okay — it’s not surprising because that is how Alabama fans work, but regardless it was a sad plea.

The Tide lost to LSU and Tennessee. Why would they get in over the Vols? Tennessee had the head-to-head, and regardless of Alabama’s history, the Vols were the better team this year. Yes, we said that too. At this point, we’re just glad the committee made the right choice to leave out Alabama because the Tide wasn’t one of the four best teams.

Georgia, Michigan, TCU, and Ohio State were the four right choices for the playoff, and Alabama will have to accept it. Maybe next year, they can do their jobs to get into the playoff and not be in this position.
