Georgia football closed out Wednesday’s Early Signing Day with a bang as 5-star edge rusher Damon Wilson committed to the Dawgs over Alabama and Ohio State. What a way for the Dawgs to close out the early signing period’s first day by landing a guy like Wilson.

The Dawgs are red hot on the recruiting trail right now as they look to finish with another Top 2 class. Georgia doesn’t have to be No.1 overall for it to feel like a successful recruiting cycle because when you’re as consistent as the Dawgs are, landing in the Top 3-5 is right where a program wants to be. Alabama and Georgia are walking definitions of that, so not landing No.1 overall isn’t bad, sometimes another program finishes with a few more five-stars than Georgia, and it’s okay.

Wilson is just icing on the cake for the Dawgs landing another high-level linebacker/edge rush class. It seems like the Dawgs know what to say to get some of the best guys each year, and that is huge when you’re contending for national championships. That success will help land some of these guys too, but it’s also the coaches who work their tails off to land these players.

Georgia football gets a big surprise in Damon Wilson.

The Dawg fans had to wait most of the day for some big news, but when Wilson finally got his time, he made it short and sweet. Wilson said he picked Georgia and quickly put that red hat on his head.

According to 247Sports Composite rankings, Wilson is the No. 13 overall player, the No. 2 edge rusher and the No. 4 player out of Florida. He is a massive pickup for the Dawgs, and that’s putting it lightly. Wilson is 6-4 and 230 pounds, making him an excellent specimen for his position. Georgia needs guys like him because their depth in this position is slim. There are young guys, but the Dawgs need more, and they got a stud in Wilson.

It went down to the wire between Georgia and Ohio State, but the Dawgs edged out the Buckeyes giving them the first win between these two programs. The next will come on Dec. 31 in Atlanta. Georgia will announce one more target on Thursday, and the Dawgs might see him commit to the G.

The signing period isn’t over, as it’ll last through Friday, G could add a few more from the portal and at least one more through the high school side. With Wilson, the Dawgs now have 26 guys in this 2023 class, with 23 of them signed, and we expect Wilson to send in his LOI as well, giving the Dawgs 24. Georgia had a good day, and the blessings will keep coming.
