For the last few years there have been discussions about the Big Ten and SEC breaking away from the NCAA and forming their own super conference. At first this seemed like a funny joke, but as resentment with the NCAA grows more and more each day this seems more realistic as time goes on.

Even Kirby Smart, who has always supported the purest form of college football, has discussed the possibility of the SEC breaking away from the NCAA in the last few weeks.

If the Big Ten and SEC were to form their own super conference Georgia could expect to play a lot of exciting new matchups. This could cause new rivalries to form, and that would most likely occur with the following three teams.

1. Ohio State Buckeyes

Ohio State is the best program in the Big Ten. Georgia is the best program in the SEC. It already feels like there is a mini rivalry between these two today, but if they were in the same conference that would ramp up even more.

Georgia is a perfect 2-0 against Ohio State with their most recent victory coming in the 2022 College Football Playoff semifinals.

Georgia and Ohio State battle it out on the recruiting trail quite often today, but seeing these two programs play on the field more regularly would be great for the sport. They do have a home-and-home series scheduled to begin in 2030, but that more than likely will be canceled or moved to a neutral site.

Either way, Georgia and Ohio State would most likely form the biggest rivalry between an SEC and Big Ten team if they two conferences merged, and both sides would welcome this challenge.

2. Oregon Ducks

Next up is the Oregon Ducks who Georgia also holds a 2-0 record against as well. The last time these teams played was in the season opener in 2022 when Georgia destroyed Oregon 49-3. Oregon has come a long way since then though and would likely be a much more competitive opponent this time around, but Georgia has always had their number.

Similarly to Ohio State, Oregon is a team Georgia already has a small rivalry with today because they pursue a lot of the same recruits. Their head coach, Dan Lanning, was an assistant under Smart as well, so that would create an interesting dynamic if these two teams played on a regular basis.

3. Michigan Wolverines

Last but not least is the Michigan Wolverines. Michigan is the winningest program in college football history, so naturally they could be someone Georgia forms a rivalry with as well. They however are a step below Ohio State and Oregon in recent years even after their National Championship in 2023, so a heated rivalry would be far more unlikely.

Georgia holds a 2-1 record against Michigan with their most recent victory coming in the 2021 College Football Playoff semifinals.

Michigan is one of those programs that can be really good on any given year. They also could just as easily be a really average team which has been seen in the two seasons since winning a national title. So they certainly could give Georgia a run for their money from time to time, but some years playing Michigan would be a walk in the park.

A lot of dominoes have to fall before the SEC and Big Ten form their own super conference, and in all honesty this is something no fan should hope for. But this new super conference is much more likely to happen than anyone thought three years ago, so who knows what will happen.
