Georgia is still riding high after earning four commitments from recruits who visited Athens last weekend. Kirby Smart will look to carry that momentum into this weekend where he once again will welcome an impressive list of recruits to Georgia.
The Bulldogs however are still receiving a lot of buzz surrounding five-star defensive lineman Marcus Fakatou who was also on campus last weekend. He has already been predicted to commit to Ohio State and even took a visit to Columbus just days before he came to Athens, but the Buckeyes failed to lock him down when he was on their campus and that could come back to haunt them.
Ohio State gave Georgia an opportunity with Marcus Fakatou that Kirby Smart took advantage of
Ohio State was the heavy favorite entering Fakatou's visit to Georgia while the Bulldogs seemed like they were already out of it. That however quickly changed as Fakatou said after his Georgia visit that his recruitment will most likely come down to UGA and Ohio State.
Georgia would've never been mentioned in the same breath as Ohio State before their visit, but Smart took advantage of the opportunity the Buckeyes gave them and now he has Georgia in position to win his recruitment.
There is still a lot of work to do if Georgia is going to come out on top. The Buckeyes are still favored to win and Fakatou has visits coming up next week to Oregon and Notre Dame. But Smart has Georgia officially in the running to win his recruitment, and that wasn't the case just one week ago.
Winning Fakatou's recruitment would help take Georgia's recruiting class to the next level, and if you combine him with another potential five-star commit things could really start to get interesting for Georgia.
Georgia could actually be on the verge of two new 5-star commits
If Georgia were to win Fakatou's recruitment that would give them three five-star commits in their 2027 recruiting class. But what if someone told you there was a chance Georgia could add another without having to do anything?
That is exactly what could happen with current four-star linebacker Joakim Gouda who committed to Georgia earlier this week.
According to On3, Gouda is the No. 32 overall player in the country. Right now On3 only has 18 five-star recruits, but by the end of the recruiting cycle they will increase that number to 32. That is the number of recruits that are given a five-star every year because it represents the total number of first round NFL draft picks each year.
So as long as Gouda stays put at No. 32 (or climbs higher) he would be Georgia's fourth five-star.
Obviously there is a lot of work to do for Georgia to win Fakatou's recruitment. They also don't have any control on Gouda earning his fifth star either.
But there is a chance Fakatou could join Gouda in Georgia's recruiting class and they both end up being five-star commits for the Bulldogs.
