The offseason has not been kind to Georgia so far. They have already lost four players to the Transfer Portal which includes their leading scorer Jeremiah Wilkinson and star big man Somto Cyril.
The Bulldogs have some momentum after making the NCAA Tournament two years in a row, but losing all of this talent will be difficult to replace. Mike White does have a solid incoming recruiting class, but he needs to strike gold in the Transfer Portal if Georgia is going to improve next season.
Georgia needs to be selective in who they target because the top players in the country won't want to come to Georgia, but there are a handful of really good players that White would be wise to immediately start targeting.
1. Boise State center Drew Fielder
The formula for Georgia in the portal is to target elite players from small schools who are looking to make the jump to a Power Five program. Boise State center Drew Fielder fits that description to perfection.
Fielder spent two seasons at Georgetown before transferring to Boise State this past season. In his one season with the Broncos he tallied 14.7 points and 5.7 rebounds per game. He also shot over 40 percent from 3-point range which is a huge plus for someone with Fielder's size.
Fielder only has one year of eligibility left, but he would be the perfect player to come in and lead Georgia's bigs for the next year as younger players on the roster develop underneath him.
2. Kennesaw State guard RJ Johnson
Kennesaw State guard RJ Johnson is a very intriguing prospect. He just finished his second season at Kennesaw State where he averaged 14.5 points and 4.0 assists per game, and it's clear that his game translates to major college basketball.
Johnson hit his stride at the end of the season as he was named the Conference USA Tournament MVP. His stellar run led Kennesaw State to the NCAA Tournament where they really challenged 3-seed Gonzaga in the Big Dance. They came up just short of pulling off the upset, but a nine point loss to a program like Gonzaga was a lot better than Georgia could muster last year.
Johnson has two more years of eligibility left, so he could create a really nice career for himself at Georgia if he chose to come to the Bulldogs. And the fact that he is already in Georgia wouldn't hurt UGA's chances either.
3. Robert Morris forward DeSean Goode
Georgia could always use more size, and Robert Morris power forward DeSean Goode could be just the player they need.
Goode just finished his second season in college where he exploded for a whopping 15.2 points per game. He also averaged 8.7 rebounds and 1.4 assists as well. But the most impressive thing by far is that he shot 62.9 percent from the field.
Goode is yet another player who is looking to make the jump to a Power Five school this year, and Georgia has everything he could be looking for. They have ample playing time available for him and spot in their starting lineup that he would probably win. Goode will probably get some looks from other programs that are better than Georgia, but if he wants to be a star he would be wise to head to Athens.
It will be interesting to see who White targets in the portal. These three players are obvious choices for him, but at the end of the day White needs to be aggressive as he looks to get Georgia back to the NCAA Tournament for the third year in a row.
