This week’s AP Poll saw Georgia stay put at No. 2, but a few contributors to the poll ranked Georgia far lower than the rest of their counterparts.
The overall consensus is that Georgia is the No. 2 team in the country. They only trail Texas, but this week they gained a few points on the Longhorns and even have six first place votes now. Not everyone is in love with Georgia as much though because two voters voted Georgia No. 6 in their ballot and one voter put them at No. 8.

The argument against Georgia right now is that they haven’t played anyone that great yet. They began their season against Tennessee State and Western Kentucky which is about as easy it can get before traveling to Arkansas who might be the worst team in the SEC this season. This past weekend was supposed to be their first true test against Oklahoma, but the Sooners look nothing like the contender many expected them to be.
These voters may want to see Georgia play a good team before ranking them higher, but Georgia deserves credit for winning all of their games convincingly. So far they’ve won each of their games by at least 28 points while demolishing Tennessee State and Western Kentucky by 60 and 50. Sure none of these teams are that good, but Georgia handled their business how they should.
That’s been enough for the AP Poll overall to rank them No. 2, but for a couple voters they aren’t convinced Georgia even belongs in the top five.
Georgia’s opportunity to prove these AP Poll voters wrong is coming soon
Georgia can disagree with these rankings all they want, but they’ll finally have a chance to show these voters just how wrong they think they are. Vanderbilt this weekend won’t be much of a challenge, but after that the Bulldogs’ schedule will ramp up.
After playing Vanderbilt Georgia heads to Alabama for their second road game of the season. That could end up being the most difficult game of the season for Georgia, so if they can beat Alabama no one should be able to doubt if Georgia is a top five team in the country.
After Alabama Georgia heads home for an easier game against Auburn and then their bye week, but life once again gets difficult right after that. Georgia then faces a hot Florida team in Atlanta before heading to Ole Miss the following week. For those keeping track at home that’s three top 10 matchups within four games all occurring away from Athens.
Winning any one of these three games would look good on Georgia’s resume, going 2-1 would be amazing. If Georgia emerges from this stretch with their undefeated record still in tact then they may just deserve to be the No. 1 team in the country.
While it can be frustrating to see AP voters not give Georgia the respect they think they deserve, it ultimately does not matter. Georgia has plenty of opportunities to prove them wrong, and as long as they keep winning nothing any voter says in September will matter if Georgia is hoisting the national championship trophy in January.
