One of Georgia football's top commits in their 2026 recruiting class is four-star safety Chace Calicut. His commitment to UGA was a massive deal, but unfortunately Calicut is in the news for the wrong reasons now as he has been charged with two counts of aggravated assault with a deadly weapon, according to a report from Fox 26 in Houston. This stems from an incident that occurred on July 6 which was just nine days after he announced his commitment to UGA.

4-star Georgia commit faces two serious charges

The four-star safety from Texas is one of the biggest reasons why Georgia currently has the No. 2 recruiting class in the country. His commitment is what helped propel the Bulldogs up the recruiting rankings at the end of June where they now sit atop of the enitre SEC. This news however ruins any excitement Georgia fans may have had surrounding Calicut's commitment to UGA.

In the small amount of time since Calicut committed to Georgia, he quickly became a fan favorite of this recruiting class. Not only because he is the No. 114 overall player in the country, but because he also trolled in-state program Texas who UGA has been in a big recruiting rivalry with this offseason.

According to court records, Calicut's car swirved around another vehicle and slammed on their brakes when they got in from of them. The second car attempted to flee, but Calicut and another individual in the car with him kept following them. Eventually the second car executed a U-turn to drive away, but that is when gunshots were reportedly fired from the other individual in the car with Calicut.

This is the second Georgia commit to be charged this month as defensive line commit Seven Cloud was charged in relation to a domestic incident as well. Word also came out this past week that current offensive lineman Jah Jackson is also facing drug-related charges as well.
