National signing day is always a day full of drama, and Georgia football has not been immune to that drama.

Four-star QB Ryan Montgomery has been committed to Georgia for quite some time, and he never seemed to be interested in any other school since committing to UGA. But that all changed Tuesday night when reports came out that Florida was making a big push for him. And Montgomery appeared to be listening to their pitch.

Montgomery is the No. 108 overall player in the 2025 class as well as the No. 12 QB and No. 5 player from Ohio. So this loss would be brutal for Georgia.

So while Montgomery was listening to Florida’s pitch, Kirby Smart must have gotten back in Montgomery’s ear as he announced early Wednesday morning that he was still planning on signing with Georgia. And then a few hours later, he made it 100 percent official.

Georgia keeps rival Florida in their place

It goes without saying how bad losing Montgomery to Florida would have been. Losing this talented of a player to any school would have been a tough pill to swallow, but losing him to Georgia’s biggest rival would have been worst case scenario.

Thankfully however that did not happen, and Georgia has added yet another elite QB to their roster.

So while Georgia continues to bully Florida on the field, it is fun to see them continue dominating the Gators on the recruiting trail as well. The last thing Georgia fans want is to give Florida any sort of win in this rivalry, and thankfully that win isn’t coming with flipping Montgomery on the recruiting trail.

Georgia hasn’t been perfect today as they did lose one very talented recruit to Florida State, but UGA can chalk up the Montgomery recruitment as a big win, especially after this late push from the Gators.
