On Saturday Georgia received an interesting update in the recruitment for four-star safety Seth Williams. Georgia is one of his two finalists who has been at the top of his recruitment for much of this summer. Clemson however is his other finalist and the Tigers have really been coming on strong recently.
Most of the time it is known who is going to win a recruitment before that player announces their commitment. That however is not the case with Williams who has kept a lot of information about his recruitment close to his chest.
This should make for an exciting finish to his recruitment, but he potentially is setting Georgia up for a heartbreaking defeat as he was just quoted saying he still can't decide between Georgia and Clemson. That however may not be the case according to 247Sports.

"One day it is Georgia, then the next day it is Clemson. It is really back and forth right now."

Is it necessary for Seth Williams to lead Georgia on like this?
This quote from Williams may not seem like a big deal, but it is when you factor in 247Sports having a prediction logged in Clemson's favor to win his recruitment. This prediction was placed about a month ago and has held steady ever since, so that shows that Clemson is still the leader in his recruitment.
A few weeks ago Williams did delay his commitment though. This seemed like great news for Georgia because this occurred after 247Sports logged their prediction in favor of Clemson, but as long as that prediction is out there it is hard for UGA to have a lot of confidence.
So is Williams actually uncertain about where he wants to go? Or is he just trying to use Georgia to increase the hype surrounding his commitment. At this point it is impossible to know, but other recruits have used Georgia for attention before so there is a chance he is doing the same thing.
Why Georgia can't afford to lose Seth Williams' recruitment
Williams is a recruit that Georgia can't afford to lose. At this point in the offseason the Bulldogs have the No. 13 overall recruiting class in the country. That isn't terrible for mid-July, but the fact that they have zero defensive backs committed to their class is pretty bad.
This hasn't been on purpose either because Georgia has been in the running for many elite defensive backs before they ultimately chose other schools over them. This includes Clemson who already beat them for four-star Jayden Aparcio-Bailey at the end of June.
Georgia can afford to have one recruiting class that is ranked a bit lower and still survive as a program. They however will really struggle if they don't start adding some solid defensive backs.
Williams is one of the few known defensive backs that Georgia is in on right now. Who knows if what he is saying is true, but there is a chance Georgia is able to come from behind and win his commitment.
The exact opposite could be true though and Williams could be setting Georgia up for an extremely discouraging defeat.
