Georgia hosted their first official visit weekend last week and so far it looks like it was a very successful weekend. No commitments have come from this weekend yet, but all signs point to Georgia getting a lot of good news in the coming weeks.

Five-star wide receiver Eric McFarland's recruitment however stands out above any other visitor that was in Athens during this weekend. The fact that he is a five-star speaks for itself, but entering his visit to Georgia he was viewed as a heavy lean to Texas A&M.

But this visit may have changed everything.

Georgia made up serious ground on Texas A&M for 5-star WR Eric McFarland

McFarland shared a few quotes about how much he enjoyed his time at Georgia last weekend. Hearing him speak so highly of Georgia is nice, but every recruit always says nice things after an official visit to any school in the country so it's important to take those comments with a grain of salt.

But what matters most is that On3 shared that they believe Georgia is still in the running after this visit which is a huge step in the right direction.

Entering this visit it was Texas A&M who was the clear favorite. That is still the case even after this visit, but On3 confirmed that Georgia is still in the running and very much has a chance to come out on top.

And considering the class that Texas A&M is putting together, this is a recruitment that Georgia has to win.

Georgia looks to put an end to Texas A&M's concerning recruiting surge

Texas A&M currently has the No. 1 recruiting class in the country. A lot of that has to do with the fact that they have commitments from five five-star recruits which includes Mark Matthews who just chose the Aggies over Georgia.

This recent surge has given Georgia another SEC foe they have to worry about. Kirby Smart however can stop their momentum in its tracks by beating them for McFarland.

Georgia has a solid recruiting class themselves which consists of two five-star commits, but they have a long ways to go to catch up to Texas A&M. If the Aggies win this recruitment then there is almost no chance Georgia will catch them in the rankings, but winning this battle could flip things in their favor.

Accomplishing that though will not be easy. A&M is one of the few schools who is willing to spend a lot of money to buy recruits, and that is something Smart isn't willing to do. If McFarland is someone who deeply cares about NIL then this is probably a recruitment Georgia won't win, but if he is someone who wants to win championships and be developed for the NFL then maybe Smart can come from behind.

Only time will tell, but at this point Georgia should be thankful that they are still in the running.

But if they are going to climb back up the recruiting rankings this is a recruitment Smart and Georgia have to win.
