Five-star quarterback Jayden Wade has been committed to Georgia since last November. Ever since he committed to Georgia he has been the No. 1 quarterback in the 2028 recruiting class, but he is in an intense competition to hold onto that ranking.
Christopher Vargas is the No. 2 quarterback in the country according to 247Sports. He has been ranked behind Wade since he committed to Georgia, but he has been inching closer to Wade for the past few months.
That trend continued on Wednesday as Vargas inched one spot closer to passing Wade in the 247Sports recruiting rankings.

5-star commit Jayden Wade is close to losing his No. 1 ranking
Before the 247Sports rankings update Wade was already the No. 1 quarterback and No. 2 overall player in the country. His ranking did not change at all on Wednesday, but Vargas' ranking did.
Vargas was the No. 5 player in the country, but after this update he slid up one spot to No. 4. That may not seem like a lot, but when players are already ranked at the top of the recruiting class even a small jump is impactful.
Wade still has control of the No. 1 ranking, but he is one spot closer to losing it. Maybe he cares about that or maybe he doesn't, but Georgia fans will absolutely want him to stay at No. 1 so they can keep bragging to all of their rivals.
Georgia and Kirby Smart however couldn't care less about his ranking.
Jayden Wade's No. 1 ranking is the last thing Georgia is worried about
Smart has made it clear throughout his tenure that he doesn't care where players are ranked. He will recruit a five-star player just as hard as a three-star recruit as long as he thinks they are good enough to play at Georgia, and that applies to Wade.
Wade is the quarterback that he wants in Georgia's 2028 class. That will remain the case whether he is the No. 1 QB, the No. 2 QB or the No. 10 QB. No matter what happens to his ranking Smart won't care in the slightest, all he cares about is holding onto his commitment.
Georgia has had issues holding onto their commitments of top ranked quarterbacks. Dylan Raiola and Jared Curtis were both five-star commis at one point, but they ultimately chose to turn their back on Georgia and flip elsewhere. So Smart needs to do everything he can to avoid that from happening with Wade.
The bad news for Georgia is that a handful of big name schools are aggressively pursuing him. The good news though is that Wade has silenced any rumor that he is thinking about flipping whenever they come up.
Georgia still has over a year to hold onto his commitment until Wade can sign with he program. That will give these other teams plenty of time to change his mind, but so far he is remaining committed to Georgia and seems like he has no plans of changing his mind.
