On Wednesday Georgia received some great recruiting news as five-star tight end Jaxon Dollar announced his commitment to Kirby Smart and the Bulldogs. Earning a commitment from the No. 2 tight end in the country will always be a good reason to celebrate, but Dollar gave fans another reason to flex on arch rival Florida.
Florida wasn’t a finalist for Dollar, so why would this impact them? Simple, this commitment moved Georgia above the Gators in the 2027 recruiting rankings just days after they were bragging for moving past Georgia.
5-star Jaxon Dollar gave Georgia more breathing rights over Florida
This may have been the most “little brother” move of all time. Earlier this week Florida earned a big commitment from one of the top offensive lineman in the country and it was that commitment that pushed them above Georgia in the team recruiting rankings.
Florida fans made sure to brag about this because what else do they have to cheer about? They can’t win on the field so having a higher team ranking (even though they had more commits and less five-stars) is the only thing they can really be proud of.
But after celebrating a meaningless accomplishment Kirby Smart put them back in their place by adding Dollar who is the Bulldogs’ third five-star commit.
Georgia now sits at No. 6 in the recruiting rankings with just eight commits while Florida is at No. 8 with 10 commits. So even though they are still pretty close, the gap will only widen as time goes on.
Celebrating recruiting rankings in the spring was always a silly thing to do, but when Florida has been as bad as they have for this long it makes sense why they’d do that. But Smart made sure to cut those celebrations short by adding Dollar, so now Florida really has nothing to brag about right now.
Halloween can’t get here so enough.
