Kemon Spell is the No. 1 running back in the 2027 class and is Georgia’s highest ranked commit. Since committing to Georgia he has stated countless times that he isn’t interested in any other schools, but a new report has hinted at that not being the case anymore.
247Sports provided a new update to Spell’s recruitment stating that another school is pushing hard for Spell behind the scenes. That has been the case from time to time since Spell committed to Georgia, but this new report hints at Spell also having interest in them. This would be the first time he’s shown public interest in another school since committing to Georgia in February, and that’s not what anyone at UGA wants to see.
247Sports requires a subscription to read the full update, but they did reveal that a new team is in the mix which implies that Spell may have interest in them as well.
“247Sports has gathered intel that a big player is in the mix behind the scenes,” Tom Loy wrote for 247Sports.com.
Kemon Spell may be changing his stance on NIL
When Kemon Spell committed to Georgia on February 2 he left some NIL money on the table. He reportedly will make about $1 million next season at Georgia, but he himself said that NIL wasn’t that important to him. He never said how much other schools were offering him, but the nation’s No. 2 running back is making more from Tennessee and teams like Miami who are known from throwing around loads of money have attempted to flip him.
Spell so far has shown zero interest in these schools, but that no longer is the case. A subscription to 247Sports is required to potentially find out what school he is being connected to, but a “big player” implies that it’s a school who is on Georgia’s level nationally.
Georgia has everything that Spell could want in an elite program. They send more players to the NFL than any other program and have sent multiple running backs to the league recently too. They also have won more than any other program this decade which includes two national championships and three SEC titles. No program can match the success that Georgia has had the last five years, so after being committed to Georgia for nearly eight months it seems like NIL is the most likely thing that is making him think twice.
If Spell takes a visit to another school this fall that will be made public. With social media nowadays it would be nearly impossible for any school to have him secretly visit for a game without the college football world finding out. If that a happens then Georgia’s commitment is in serious trouble, but for now that hasn’t occurred.
The fact that he is showing interest in a different school for the first time since committing to Georgia is concerning by itself though. Who knows if it will lead to anything, but Smell’s commitment to Georgia is not as secure as it once was.
