5-star RB turned his back on Georgia days before he was supposed to visit

Georgia has lost all hope with one of the top recruiting targets.

The end of the intense recruiting month of June is almost here, but before official visit season ends Georgia was expecting another big name visitor on their campus this weekend. Five-star running back David Gabriel Georges was expected to be on Georgia's campus this weekend, but he canceled that visit just a couple days before it was supposed to be begin.

This is Georgia's sign that they don't stand a chance at landing Gabriel Georges, but that writing has been on the wall for quite some time.

5-star David Gabriel Georges cancels Georgia visit days after new SEC school jumps in the lead

Heading into his official visits at the start of the month it was Ohio State who was thought to be Gabriel Georges' top school. The Buckeyes got the first visit and it went extremely well, but then everything changed when he visited Tennessee the following weekend.

Tennessee reportedly crushed his visit to the point where the Volunteers feel like they could be the new school out in front. Gabriel Georges is the top ranked player from the state of Tennessee, so seeing the Vols shoot to the top of his list really wasn't that surprising.

Last weekend Gabriel Georges visited Ole Miss and then Georgia was supposed to get his final visit this weekend. That visit however is no longer occurring, so Gabriel Georges is down to Ohio State, Tennessee and Ole Miss with a commitment likely coming soon.

It was never realistic for Georgia to land David Gabriel Georges

This cancellation is Georgia's sign that they will not be winning his recruitment. That typically is a tough thing to see, but in this instance it really isn't that disappointing.

Why is that? Because Georgia was never going to win this recruitment in the first place.

Georgia always seemed like an afterthought to Gabriel Georges when he would talk about his recruitment. That however isn't even the biggest reason why Georgia never stood a chance because current running back commit Kemon Spell likely is the biggest reason why Gabriel Georges was never that interested in UGA.

Gabriel Georges is the No. 2 running back in the country, Spell on the other hand is the No. 1 running back. There isn't a world where the No. 2 running back would sign up to play with the No.1 running back, so the second Spell committed to Georgia likely was the moment Gabriel Georges lost interest in UGA.

The fact that Spell is committed to Georgia is why no one should be that sad to see Gabriel Georges cancel his visit. The Bulldogs have the better player already committed, so losing Gabriel Georges really isn't that bad. If Georgia didn't have Spell's commitment already then this update would be a good reason for fans to panic, but that is not the case now.

Sure it would've been nice to add Gabriel Georges to Georgia's recruiting class as well, but UGA will be just fine without him thanks to Spell's commitment.
