Georgia already has one of the best running back rooms in the country. Kirby Smart has already convinced two running backs in the 2027 class to commit to Georgia, and that includes five-star Kemon Spell who is the No. 1 running back in the country.
Even with their two commits though Smart has remained consistent in his efforts to add a third running back. Of all the running backs out there the one that he has been after the hardest is fellow five-star David Gabriel-Georges who is the No. 2 running back in the country.
It may seem unlikely for Georgia to win his recruitment since they already have Spell, but Gabriel-Georges is giving them a chance to earn his commitment. On Wednesday he announced that Georgia is one of his four finalists along with Tennessee, Ohio State and Ole Miss. He also shared that he will commit on July 22 meaning Smart still has some time to work his magic and win this recruitment.

5-star David Gabriel-Georges would be the icing on the cake for Georgia's 2027 recruiting class
Georgia would do something remarkable if they are able to win this recruitment. A commitment from Gabriel-Georges would mean that Georgia would have the top two running backs in the country in their recruiting class.
How realistic is that though? At this point it doesn't seem very likely.
Two weeks ago Gabriel-Georges was discussing the top schools in his recruitment, and the comments he made about Georgia compared to everyone else were not encouraging. Ohio State and Tennessee were praised like they were the favorites, and Ole Miss was viewed as a sneaky choice for him as well. But what was the comment that was shared about Georgia?
They are "on his list as well."
That's hardly worth getting too excited about, but as long as Georgia is in the running Smart has an opportunity to prove why he is the best recruiter in the country. And Gabriel-Georges made sure to let Smart and Georgia know that they still have a shot because he said his official visits to his four finalists will decide his recruitment.
Kirby Smart's pursuit of a third running back has come up short at every turn
Gabriel-Georges has a chance to turn the tide on what has been a difficult journey for Smart. Ever since adding two running backs to Georgia's class, Smart has done everything he can to add a third.
In-state prospect Andrew Beard seemed like the most likely addition at one point, but he ultimately chose to commit to Florida.
While losing anyone to Florida isn't fun, it is easy to get over because of how great Georgia's running back commits already are. But adding Gabriel-Georges to the mix would secure Georgia's running back for years to come.
Fans will have to wait over two months to learn what his final decision is, and right now Georgia might be in fourth place. But he still plans to take an official visit to Georgia before he commits, so Smart will have at least one more opportunity to turn the tides in his favor.
