Some Georgia fans haven’t been that thrilled with offensive coordinator Mike Bobo since he returned to Georgia’s coaching staff a few years ago. Alabama’s coaching staff though is fearful of him, and that should tell every Georgia fan how confident they should be in Bobo.

Alabama defensive coordinator Kane Wommack spoke extremely highly about Bobo earlier this week by calling him one of the best play callers he’s ever gone up against. The Georgia fans that don’t like him would probably disagree, but there’s a lot of truth to this statement so far this season.

It’s hard to deny Mike Bobo’s greatness so far this season

So far this season Georgia has scored 51.4 points per game. Through the first five weeks of the season that puts them at No. 1 in the country.

Georgia hasn’t played the most difficult schedule in the country this season, in fact they haven’t played anyone all that good. Oklahoma has a strong defense though even if their overall team has underachieved, and Bobo was still able to guide Georgia’s offense to 41 points.

Georgia’s biggest test so far this season is this weekend at Alabama. The good news is that Alabama’s defense is only ranked No. 51 in points allowed, so there’s a chance Georgia could light up the scoreboard. Severe weather could slow them down though, but at the end of the day as long as Georgia wins it doesn’t really matter how many points their offense scores.

Alabama does have the No. 2 scoring offense in the country though, so if Georgia wants to win this game Bobo and the entire offense have to be ready to score as much as they can.

Georgia fans are demanding more from Mike Bobo

Having the highest scoring offense in the country is good, but it doesn’t mean much if Georgia isn’t winning. The crazy thing about the ridicule Bobo faces is that Georgia has been winning a lot since he’s taken control of the offense again, but some fans still don’t think it’s enough.

Georgia has won the last two SEC championships. They’ve also beaten some great teams in the regular season like Ole Miss and Texas last year and the Longhorns again in 2024. Georgia however hasn’t won a playoff game in three years, and that’s the biggest reason why some fans dislike Bobo.

Beating Alabama this weekend in Tuscaloosa should help more Georgia fans respect Bobo though. Kirby Smart is only 2-7 against the Tide during his tenure, so if Bobo can help him notch another win that should make everyone more happy with the job he’s done.

Ultimately though he has to help Georgia win a playoff game to get some fans off his back. That likely though won’t be enough to get everyone off his back, so the only way to truly make everyone love him is by winning a national championship.

That may seem like harsh standards, but those are the expectations Smart has built over the past decade.
