Last week Georgia football earned a commitment from top 50 corner Justice Fitzpatrick. It's quite obvious to see why this commitment is such a big deal based simply on his ranking in the 2026 recruiting class, but what Georgia did to an SEC rival made this commitment that much better.

Fitzpatrick's older brother (Minkah) played at Alabama back when Kirby Smart was a still a coach there, so the Tide thought they stood a good chance at winning this commitment. That however turned out to not be the case as Fitzpatrick was urged by his older brother to go play for Smart instead of following his suit and playing at Alabama.

This obvoiusly upset a lot of Alabama fans because this is a recruitment they really wanted to win. Those feelings however likely won't last long for Alabama because they are quickly swooping in and stealing a five-star recruit that had been predicted to commit to Georgia a few weeks ago.

"I think it's Alabama now."

Alabama is the new leader for 5-star Jireh Edwards

Jireh Edwards is a five-star safety who according to the 247Sports composite rankings is the No. 23 overall player in the country. About two weeks ago, 247Sports logged a prediction for Edwards to commit to Georgia, but UGA fans didn't have long to celebrate that news because the tides have appeard to shift already.

Last week a Rivals expert provided an update on Edwards' recruitment, and Georgia wasn't even mentioned in that update. This led many to believe that Georgia was no longer even in the running for Edwards. Fast forward to Tuesday and On3's Josh Newberg shared that he believes Alabama has surged past both Georgia and Oregon in this recruitment.

Edwards has a commitment date set for July 5, so there is still time for Georgia to get back in the running. But for now this is looking like it will be a loss for Georgia after things were looking so good.
