On Wednesday word came out that transfer linebacker Amaris Williams tore his ACL during Georgia’s practice on Tuesday. He was immediately ruled out for the season, so after coming to Athens this spring with a lot of expectations he will have to wait an entire year before ever taking the field in a Georgia uniform.

Williams spoke about his injury for the first time on Friday as he posted a message on social media. In that message he made a promise to Georgia that he will be back and better than ever.

“Comeback fin be sum serious,” Williams said via dawgnation.com. “I’a be bk to fk shi up soon.”

He definitely chose an interesting way to make this statement, but the message is clear. Williams will not let this injury slow him down and he will make his return at Georgia and be better than he ever was.

He clearly has a long road to recovery though as an ACL tear is one of the most difficult injuries to come back from in sports. But he clearly has the right mindset to get the most out of his recovery, and that is especially important because of the nature of his injury.

It’d be one thing if he tore his ACL by twisting awkwardly in a tackle. While that wouldn’t make it any better for him physically, that is something that would be easy to wrap your head around. Williams however tore his ACL during a non-contact period of practice, so that could be a difficult thing for him to overcome mentally.

But Williams has the perfect mindset just days after this injury, and while it will be tough to play this season without him Georgia can look forward to having him back on the field in 2027.
