One of the first transfers Georgia football was publicly after in the transfer portal this spring was North Carolina EDGE Beau Atkinson. While UGA didn't put all their eggs in Atkinson's basket, they made it clear that he was a top target for them as the immediately scheduled a visit with Atkinson to visit Athens.

Georgia however had some steep competition in this recruitment because the other school Atkinson was visiting was the National Champion Ohio State Buckeyes.

That didn't stop Georgia's pursuit of Atkinson as they continued to go all out for him, but unfortunately Atkinson officially chose the Buckeyes over UGA Wednesday night.

Beau Atkinson transfers to Ohio State

Obviously Ohio State is a great program, so it makes sense why any player would want to play for the Buckeys. But there is another big reason why Atkinson might have chosen Ohio State over Georgia.

This is due to the EDGE transfer that UGA already added this spring from Army in Elo Modozie. Modozie made his commitment to UGA official Sunday night in what was Georgia's biggest transfer pickup of the spring. Every Georgia fan knew the Bulldogs needed some help up front on defense, and Modozie was Georgia's top choice as he was the highest ranked EDGE in the portal.

So there is a chance Modozie's decision to transfer to Georgia pushed Atkinson to Ohio State.

While it would have been amazing for both players to end up at UGA, the chances of that happening were very slim. So at the end of the day, Georgia fans should not feel too upset because the Bulldogs have already added a player that is just as good as Atkinson if not a little better.

Georgia is still after a few players in the portal, so it will be interesting to see if UGA can add any more talent in the coming days while the transfer portal is still open.
