Georgia football quarterback Carson Beck did not have the season anyone was hoping for. That doesn’t mean he was bad for UGA this season, but the expectations for Beck were much higher for him, and he did not meet those expectations.

Heading into the 2024 season, Beck was regarded as one of the top quarterbacks in the country, if not the No. 1 QB. Sure meeting those expectations would be nearly impossible to pull off, but Beck at times wasn’t even close to meeting them. Beck and the Georgia offense struggled all season long with starting slow which routinely put Georgia behind in many big games. Beck also struggled with turnovers throughout the season as well which put the team in a bad spot too.

But there’s another major thing that happened with the offense this season that wasn’t Beck’s fault, but it did make him lead the SEC in a troubling stat.

Beck led the SEC in drop yards

While there were a lot of issues with Georgia’s offense this season, the most talked about one was UGA’s wide receivers issues with catching the ball. There were countless examples of drops derailing drives this season, and those drops had a massive impact on many games.

Georgia led the country this season in drops, so to find out that Georgia also had the most drop yards in the SEC this season likely isn’t a surprise. It’s unfortunate for Beck that his name is attached to this stat because it isn’t his fault at all, but this stat again just speaks to the issues Georgia’s offense suffered this year.

Thankfully it appears these issues will not continue next season. Kirby Smart and his staff have been very active in the transfer portal, and have earned commitments from two elite wide receivers in Zachariah Branch and Noah Thomas. Both players will be starters on offense next season and should immediately help the offense bounce back from this season.

So while this season may have been difficult to get through at times, these struggles will not be here next season which is an extremely exciting thing to think about.
