It's been well documented how much Georgia has struggled recruiting quarterbacks in the 2027 class. Kirby Smart however has locked in another target in four-star Colton Nussmeier.
Nussmeier is everything Smart is looking for in Georgia's next quarterback commit, and as it stands right now they are one of his top two schools with official visits beginning in June.
Nussmeier doesn't have a commitment date set yet, but it is expected to be soon. His recruitment however is extremely important because it feels like the last elite quarterback Georgia has a realistic chance with.
So when it was announced that he qualified for the Elite 11 finals it was a cause for celebration as Georgia fans are wanting to learn more and more about who he is as a player. But that wasn't the only good news for Georgia because he now has a chance to go head to head against Alabama commit Elijah Haven, who chose the Tide over Georgia.

Georgia's potential QB commit has opportunity to take down Alabama's 5-star commit
Elite 11 is the biggest recruiting event for quarterbacks. It simply is a competition that puts the top quarterbacks in the current recruiting class against each other to see who comes out on top.
Georgia doesn't have a commit to cheer on yet, but the hope is that Nussmeier will turn into that player. So until he either commits to Georgia or someone else he will be the player UGA fans support.
Elite 11 this year will be extra fun though because he has a chance to outshine Haven. Georgia fans likely remember his name because he committed to Alabama over UGA about a month ago, so they would love nothing more than to see their potential quarterback commit perform better than him.
Georgia's dominance over Alabama may have no end in sight
As it stands today Haven is the No. 1 quarterback in the country and the No. 2 overall player in the 2027 recruiting class. Nussmeier however is just outside the top 100. Both players are really good, but Nussmeier has a chance to prove his is better than Haven.
If that occurs then that could mean trouble for Alabama for the foreseeable future. The Tide expect Haven to be their quarterback of the future, but if he can’t even shine during the Elite 11 finals then how can they expect to win with him in the SEC?
Georgia would be more than happy to see Alabama struggle considering they have always been their biggest competition in the SEC. And even after Georgia finally cemented themselves as the top program in the conference after handling the Crimson Tide in the SEC title game toast year, Alabama still feels like a team that has their number.
But if Haven proves to not be good enough to win the MVP at the Elite 11 finals then could be even more Georgia victories in the very near future. That will be even more true if Georgia’s five-star quarterback commit Jayden Wade, who is a member of the 2028 class, pans out as expected.
