The past 24 hours have not been great for the Atlanta Falcons as star linebacker Jalon Walker went down with a brutal injury during practice on Tuesday. This injury immediately ended the Falcons' practice and just a few hours later the final verdict came down that Walker will miss the entire season after tearing his ACL.
24 hours before this Atlanta was celebrating signing running back Bijan Robinson to a 3-year max extension worth $75 million. Those celebrations ended early though after news of Walker's injury broke Tuesday afternoon.
Most people are able to separate these two stories. It's possible to be happy with the Robinson extension while also being gutted for Walker, but ESPN analyst Gerald McCoy somehow wrote off Walker's injury because they extended Robinson.

ESPN analyst put a disrespectful spin on Jalon Walkers' injury
Walker wasn't even injured for 24 hours before McCoy uttered this ridiculous take about his injury. He somehow is insinuating that his injury is worth it for the Falcons like it had to happen to get Robinson to sign his extension.
McCoy wasn't actually celebrating his injury by any means, but it doesn't sound like he feels too bad about it either.
At this point in their careers Robinson is the more important player to the Falcons between him and Walker. He has proven himself far more than Walker has, and that is why McCoy is likely trying to emphasize how big of a deal signing his extension is. He however didn't need to compare it to Walker's injury.
It shouldn't matter whether this injury happened to a starting quarterback or the last guy on the bench who might not play a snap all season. No one should want to see any player tear their ACL and see their season come to an end before it even begins and o one should try and put a positive spin on any injury in general, let alone one that was as brutal as Walker's is.
It's a shame that McCoy made the claim that he did. Walker is one of the Falcons' emotional leaders, that is why they ended practice after he got hurt. Anyone in their organization would tell McCoy how horrible this injury is both from a team and individual well-being perspective, and they all more than likely would tell McCoy that he should've kept his mouth shut.
So maybe he should've thought twice before uttering a take as ridiculous as this on live television.
