ESPN is not a fan of this Georgia football team entering postseason play. While the rest of the country is very high on UGA's chances to beat Alabama this weekend in the SEC Championship game, ESPN's Football Power Index (FPI) does not love the Bulldogs right now.
Entering their matchup against Georgia Tech the FPI had Georgia as the No. 6 team in the country. This was already a couple spots lower than both the AP Poll and College Football Playoff rankings had Georgia, so it was a bit surprising to see them that far down their rankings.
But after their 16-9 win over Georgia Tech ESPN decided to drop Georgia even lower in their FPI rankings entering postseason play.

ESPN drops Georgia in their FPI rankings after beating Georgia Tech
Georgia Tech is a nine win football team, so one would assume that even a seven point victory would look good. That however is not the case from ESPN's viewpoint as they dropped Georgia two spots to No. 8 in their updated rankings.
It's also impossible to not notice that ESPN has Alabama ranked higher than Georgia even though the rest of the country disagrees with that. The AP Poll has Georgia significantly higher than Alabama and the updated College Football Playoff rankings likely will as well, but ESPN still believes the Crimson Tide are the better team entering the SEC Championship game.
It's unclear why ESPN is so negative about Georgia at this point in the season. The Bulldogs have one of the best resumes in the country that includes wins over Tennessee, Ole Miss and Texas, so to have them at No. 8 with an 11-1 record doesn't seem right.
But this could be the extra motivation Georgia needed to propel them to their second victory over Alabama during Kirby Smart's tenure at UGA this weekend.
